- The Government of Algeria is piloting a project for the development of a national strategy and a legal and institutional framework on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use and associated traditional knowledge , in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversityand the Nagoya Protocolin Algeria. This project benefits from GEF funding, with co-financing from UNDP and the Algerian Government. Mission statement The national expert in inventory and enhancement of forest genetic resources and genetic resources related to aromatic and medicinal plants (EN8), recruited for the Project and placedunder the authority of the UNDP Program Analyst and the National Project Director, will work closely with the National Coordinator, the Chief Technical Advisor, and other international and national experts recruited for the project. The expert's main task will be to carry out an inventory of forest genetic resources.and genetic resources for aromatic and medicinal plants eligible for APA valuation, which will be integrated into the ABS database management system. To do this, he will work closely with the database development and information organization expertgenetic background and associated traditional knowledge (EN7); it will also contribute to the development of the legislative and regulatory framework on access to genetic resources and fair and equitable sharing arising from their use.
